We are excited to celebrate and to honor the legacy of Girl Scouts’ last 100 years and the promise of the next 100! Plans are in place to celebrate with regional events, launch Girl Scouts: Forever Green—a community-focused project centered on reducing plastic waste, publish an oral history book centered on Girl Scouting in Idaho over the years, capture the centennial year in a painting by renowned Idaho artist, Gary Stone, and re-connect with Girl Scout alumnae to celebrate at a community event in Boise in late-summer 2012.
Below is a summary of the activities we are working on. Be sure to check back often to see how our plans are progressing in honor of Girl Scouting's big anniversary!

Centennial Challenge: Because there are literally hundreds of ways that you can celebrate and promote our 100th Anniversary, we're asking you to take part in our Challenge--and tell us about it! The Challenge is a way for everyone to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting and to share with the public our mission of building courage, confidence, and character.
Activites within in the Centennial Challenge all center on the idea of '100', so it's a great way for girls to connect with our 100th Anniversary. Girls can participate as a troop or Take Action on their own initiative to make a difference.

Other 100th Anniversary Initiatives:
Girl Scouts 'Herstory' Project and 100th Anniversary Book
Girl Scouts of Silver Sage has received a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council to help prepare for the 2012 Centennial. Dr. Susan Swetnam, and Idaho State University faculty member and former Girl Scout leader, will be writing a historical book about Girl Scouting in Silver Sage's territory--and she's calling on local Girl Scouts to help her do it!
Swetnam is involving Girl Scouts in 7th grade and up to help gather oral history from women who are or have been involved in the Silver Sage council. She's offering a series of oral history workshops in western, central, and eastern Idaho to train girls. All who participate will be recognized in the book and awarded a special patch.
How can you help? Susan is looking for names of women influential in Idaho Girl Scouting who should be interviewed. Please send her any names you have, with a brief note identifying them. Also, if you have historic photos, she would be interested in seeing them. Susan can be contacted at swetsusa@isu.edu.
