All session are 45-minutes in length.

On your registration form, please choose one option from Session A and one option from Session B.

Session A

Working with Older Girls in Girl Scouting

Program and Membership Staff along with Council Trainers will review the program opportunities designed specifically for the older Girl Scout, such as Highest Awards, Destinations, and Program Aide. And, we will discuss how the girl-adult partnership shifts to a greater emphasis on "girl-led" and how we can support girls in using their growing leadership skills to play a bigger role in program planning for themselves, their troops, and for their Service Units.

Our keynote speaker and expert on girl Issues, Darrel Harris, will delve deeper and answer our questions on issues facing our younger Girl Scouts. She will discuss how we recognize the signs of girls' life complexities, how we can effectively listen and support, how we know when action is necessary, and how our interaction with girls as well as our role-modeling can help them develop healthy habits.

The Ins and Outs of Troop Finances

Membership Staff along with our Chief Financial Officer Mary Carlson will review a variety of troop money management topics, such as healthy account management, money-earning guidelines, uses of cookie troop proceeds, handling sponsorships, and tips for completing the troop annual report, and will answer any questions you have about troop finances.

Building an Effective Service Unit Work Plan

Director of Membership, Lori Martin, along with Membership Staff will lead us through the key steps in building a work plan to support the healthy operation and growth of our Service Units. We will cover how to develop Service Unit goals and translate these into concrete recruitment, retention, and event plans. This workshop is a great way for Service Unit Directors to get a head-start on creating work plans for the 2010-2011 Membership Year.

Session B

Girl Scouts in the Great Outdoors

Program Staff and Council Trainers will review the opportunities for Girl Scouts to gain appreciation for and confidence in the great outdoors. We will review the unique benefits of Resident, Core, and Troop Camping and discuss how even our youngest or least-experienced girls can begin their outdoor education in simple, safe and fun ways. We will review the importance of assessing readiness and applying the principle of progression as we plan outdoor activities with our Girl Scouts.

Coordinating Great Service Unit Events

Program and Membership Staff will review the keys to organizing great Service Unit events. We will discuss ideas and guidelines for organizing and promoting Service Unit events, tips for engaging older girls in event planning and decision making, appropriate use of Cookie Dough, and tips for cultivating community resources to expand your event possibilities. This workshop is for Service Unit Event Coordinators and any volunteers who want to learn more about organizing program events.
