Boise Police Department Safety Programs

The Boise Police Department is committed to helping the community by offering safety programs to educate children and teens on how to reduce their chances of becoming a crime victim.

"Child Safety- Beware of Strangers" is designed for ages 4-12 with a goal to help children develop good safety habits. McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance for the younger kids and older kids will have the opportunity to learn about personal safety concerns, protecting personal property, internet safety, and daily home alone issues.

"Teen Safety" and "Developmentally Disabled Safety" classes inform teens and young adults about protecting personal property, dating and party safety, self defense, and daily safety measures.

Scheduling for classes are flexible and can be customized for a specific area of focus.

For more information, or to schedule a class, please call Boise Police Department's Crime Prevention Specialist, Carrie Demirelli at 208.570.6072 or email at cdemirelli@cityofboise.org

Calling all Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors for the Teen Advisory Committee!

Want to make a difference?  Looking for a resume builder and ways to increase your skills?  Then look no further. The Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) needs you! TAC is looking for 8 to 10 girls who are registered Girl Scouts in the Silver Sage Council (if you’re reading this, chances are you’re part of our Council).  Your voice needs to be heard. Bring your talents to the group and be a part of the fun. Some goals for the following year include advocacy, girl retention, camp, branding and marketing and much, much more! For more information contact Meagan at mmcarthur@girlscouts-ssc.org.

Girl Scouts Green Book Café - Virtual Book Club!, Council-Wide

Start Strong Idaho Building Healthy Teen Relationships will host an online book club for Girl Scouts. Today, many teens have been involved or have had friends involved in unhealthy relationships. Start Strong Idaho is a project through the Idaho Coalition against Sexual & Domestic Violence, aimed at promoting the development of healthy relationships skills for 13-15 year olds. The book Dreamland by Sarah Dessen is about a young girl, Caitlin, who falls in love with an abusive guy and how this unhealthy relationship affects Caitlin and her family. This Book Club is a great opportunity to read and learn about how important it is to have the knowledge of what a healthy relationship looks like, feels like, and sounds like.
Who: Any Girl Scout, ages 13 to 15 years
How: Discussions will take place using an internet program on a private facebook page. Participants will be invited to join the book club online. Participants must have an e-mail address and internet access to participate.
Registration: Please e-mail Meagan McArthur at
mmcarthur@girlscouts-ssc.org to receive the waiver and further instructions.
Cost: Free!  Need a book? Request one, and we'll loan you one!

Idaho Fish and Game Volunteer Programs, Central Idaho

Below are some of the projects the Idaho Fish and Game Volunteers can do throughout the year:
1. Spring shrub planting (native plants for wildlife habitat restoration).
2. Spring sage-grouse surveys (more appropriate for older scouts looking for a challenging learning experience).
3. Summer/fall native seed collection (we use the seed we collect to propagate seedlings for the spring planting).
4. Fall riparian (streamside) habitat restoration (best for groups of 10 to 15, or individuals who want to pitch in with others).
5. Assist in developing service projects for Girl Scouts.

It is up to the group leaders to decide whether their girls are the right age, with the only criteria being that IDFG doesn’t want anyone to have a negative experience. Kids as young as 5 or 6 are welcome, but usually the 10 and up children participate the fullest. Generally there are mixed age groups and families, with older kids and adults working alongside the younger children.

Questions or interested in participating?  Contact Ed Papenberg.
