Girl Scouts of Silver SageTravel Opportunities with Girl Scouts!

There are many opportunities to travel when you’re a Girl Scout. Learning to plan trips and explore new places as an individual, or troop, is a fundamental Girl Scouting experience. Travel is about meeting other amazing girls, developing leadership skills, gaining confidence, and enjoying valuable learning opportunities. Whether an overnight mini-adventure or an international travel opportunity, Girl Scouts learn to appreciate the great outdoors, explore new territories and immerse themselves in other cultures.

There are five types of travel with Girl Scouts:

GSUSA Destinations:

Destination travel opportunities are GSUSA-approved trips. Each destination has a unique theme offering

girls a wide variety of experiences to choose from. Girls apply to participate and travel individually to meet sister Girl Scouts at the host location.

Other details:

  • Girls as young as 11 can travel on a destination trip.
  • Age restrictions are determined by the hosting council..
  • All Destinations are listed here. There, you will find the proper application posted. All girls interested in traveling through the GSUSA destination program must fill out one application per location of interest. Girls can apply for up to four destinations.

Click here for application instructions and deadlines. Early deadline for applications was November 16 but you can still apply and will be considered by sponsoring councils.

    GSUSA Getaways:

GSUSA getaways are prepackaged travel opportunities located in different cities around the country. They are great for first time troops looking to travel. All getaways are quick weekend or short trips that don't require an application, just a registration. Often programming options are included in the price along with a few meals and sleeping arrangements.

    Other details:

    • Girl Scouts Troops ages 11-17.
    • All Getaways are listed here.

    Domestic Troop Travel:

Traveling as a troop is something many girls look forward to. The planning, budgeting, and preparation is a valuable experience in-and-of itself. All Girl Scout troops are eligible to travel once the appropriate paperwork is filled out and safety requirements are met.

    Other details:

    • Girl Scout Junior troops and older are eligible.

    International Troop Travel:

After your troop has experienced domestic travel they may want to travel internationally. There are endless places Girl Scouts are welcome and often travel to.

    World Centers Travel Opportunities:

England, Switzerland, India, and Mexico are home to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), four world centers where girls from around the globe can learn more about each other, the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement, and the countries they are visiting. The centers often offer special programs and the facilities serve as inexpensive lodging for members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
