An adult with First Aid/CPR Certification is required for any overnight trips and/or when your group is engaging in any activity that requires a "Level 1 First-Aider" present according to the Safety Activity Checkpoints.
First/Aid CPR Certification is not required, although recommended, for normal troop meetings or day trips.
The certification can be held by any adult present on the overnighter/activity - it does not need to be the Troop Leader/Co-Leader.
You will be asked to provide proof of an adult certified in CPR/FA when you submit your Troop Overnight Event form for overnight trips. For day trips, we rely on the honor system and your desire to provide the utmost in safety for your girls.
There are many community offerings of FA/CPR Certification including those listed to the right. You can also check with your local American Red Cross, American Heart Association, CPR of Idaho, Fire Department, Wellness Centers, CPR/FA Trainers in the phone book, and search the Web. We occasionally offer sessions in Boise since we have a certified CPR/FA trainer on our training team.
The key things to look for when choosing a CPR/FA Certification course are the following:
- The instructor is officially certified as a CPR/FA Trainer.
- You will receive a certification card at the completion of training.
- The course includes training for both adult and child CPR.
- The course is at least 4 hours long. This is to ensure that the course you are choosing includes sufficient hands-on practice. A course that is completely online does not qualify.
