Scouts Take the Capital is a collaborative civic engagement experience for youth members of Girl Scouts of Silver Sage and Scouting America Mountain West Council. This event will provide Scouts and Girl Scouts the opportunity to visit the State Capitol, learn about how state government functions, and engage in age-appropriate activities focused on leadership, citizenship, and advocacy. Scouts and Girl Scouts will participate by program level in separate, guided experiences that include Capitol tours, discussions about the legislative process, and opportunities to meet or hear from public officials. The goal of this event is to inspire civic awareness, encourage respectful dialogue, and empower Scouts and Girl Scouts to understand how they can make a positive impact in their communities and state.
Everyone is welcome to attend; however, the first 60
Scouts and Girl Scouts in grades K-5 and the first 60 Scouts and
Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 will be eligible to participate in a
guided Capitol tour led by Capitol staff. After those capacities are
reached, additional Scouts and Girl Scouts will still be able to
tour the Capitol with the support of trained volunteers leading
group tours.
