The Girl Scout Cookie Program is about more than helping your customers stock up on delicious treats. It's the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world. You've got big goals, and no matter what obstacles may come your way, we know that you’ll face them with resiliency and creativity—it’s the Girl Scout way!
Oh! Did we mention, running your cookie business gives you skills essential for success today and in the future: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills, & Business Ethics.
Here you will find all of the materials you need to go from Cookie Rookie to Cookie Boss!
Every year the Cookie Program has a different theme and a new mascot. The mascot is an animal that is often endangered so that not only do girls have a cute mascot to rally around but get to learn about an awesome animal, what kinds of conservation efforts are being implemented for them, and how they can help in those efforts.
The Black-footed ferret is part of the weasel family along with mink, badgers, stoats, polecats, wolverines, and the domestic ferret (that last one is the kind you can have as a pet).
There are only 3 ferret species on earth, and the black-footed ferret is the only species to live in North America (the other two live in Europe and Asia).
The average life span is 1-3 years in the wild and 4-9 years in captivity.
Female ferrets are called "jills", males are called "hobs", and babies are "kits".
Black-footed ferrets will live in abandoned prairie dog burrows. Prairie dogs are also their primary food source.
They are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night, and fossorial, meaning they primarily live underground.
The black-footed ferret was thought to be extinct until a small colony was found in Wyoming in 1981! Thanks to conservation efforts, captive breeding, and cloning, there are around 300 living in the wild today.
You can find out more about the Black-footed Ferret at www.blackfootedferret.org or National Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. You could also plan a trip to see them at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO. If travel isn't possible for you or your troop, you can see them on the Louisville Zoo's Black-Footed Ferret Cam! Black-footed Ferret Webcam | Louisville Zoo
Cookies are sold for $6 per package. In addition to the skills learned and council activities and events, Troops and Service Units get a portion of the proceeds.
First, for girls to participate in the Cookie Program they need to have a current Girl Scout Membership. If you need to renew your membership you can do so here: MyGS Account.
Next, each troop needs to have a Troop Cookie Manager, also called a TCM, who is the primary cookie person for the whole troop. It’s a big job, but they can get help from other troop parents and volunteers! TCMs need to be a registered and background checked volunteer AND sign this contract 2026 Troop Cookie Manager Contract.
